Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian defense minister General Amir Hatami met with Turkish ambassador to Tehran Hakan Tekin on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed bilateral cooperation and regional issues.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is against any measure that results in the change of geographical boundaries and the disintegration of the countries of the region,” General Hatami said, referring to the Iraqi Kurdish referendum on support for independence from Baghdad.
Hakan Tekin, for his part, hoped that the imminent visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Army Chief of Staff to Iran would lead to developing cooperation between the two countries which is in the interest of peace, stability and security in both countries and the region.
He also added that the unilateral decision of the officials of Kurdistan Regional Government by holding a referendum is worrying and will cause instability in the region.
